This is the evaluation from our Polish friends

Let’s (b)log in was the first project for the Polish partner and thanks to it we really took to eTwinning. It was a good opportunity to develop ICT skills and practice English. What seems another particularly important advantage of the project is the friendly atmosphere both partners enjoyed. It was expressed in various ways, e.g. by sending prizes for taking part in some competitions or sending such gifts like Polish ”opłatek” (related to Christmas) or the Czech “pomlazka’ (related to Easter). Dealing with the project both students and teachers had a chance to be more creative as we tried to present various topics using various tools. Students also liked such events like a trip (it was organized to present the region to our partners), a meeting with a guest (who worked in the Czech Republic) or podcasts. What was really rewarding for the students what the fact that the project was awarded with European Quality Label and it was mentioned in our local media (newspapers and the radio).

International Competition 2010

About the project:
We consider inovation and creativity of our project as very clear and important. All the final products such as the Collection of boardgames / can be used during English lessons / as well as the Collection of the crosswords – the topic Famous people can be used any time again.
The fact that the students overcame the first fear from talking in the skype or being recorded on the video was very gratifying. But also the presentations about directions in the town are very useful and have been already used in other classes.

Our project was based on the school curriculum and the textbook Cambridge Worldwide used by the Czech group. We have decided a compromise with the Polish partner about the topics. We also spent a lot of time talking about the environment./ photo tree competition/. Project was included into the School educational programme especially the way of project teaching as the cross-section topics of the school. For example The world and Europe is interesting for us,multicutural topics, self control, human relations, self regulation, media education- our presentations in the twinspace and the blog.
Cooperation between the Czech and Polish schools was in very high profesional quality, both teachers spent a lot of free time working also at home, arranging contributions, preparing new parts of the project, talking on line in the skype. It is really visible in the Blog- everyday articles. The project was presented in the local newspaper on both sides, on the school website in the section International projects, the students introduced their contributions to the parents during teachers-parents meeting, There is a large noticeboard in the school corridor with etwinning projects. It was presented in the National conference of etwinning in the Czech Republic and the metodology of this project was presented in the British-Czech etwinning workshop in Prague.

Using ICT-
All the children were the part of the twinspace team and had access to the activities there. They worked in photogallery, blog, forum, they sent emails, created powerpoint presentations, photostories, word documents, they learned a lot of new- such as excel, Windows movie maker, podomatic.com, videoclips in quick time, they took part in videoconferences.

This project can be used at any school at any time especially the final products of the project which were already mentioned. / Boardgames, crosswords, directions, maps / We wanted to publish them but it was too expensive, so we published them only on line on our school website in PDF format, so they can be copied and used again. It would be a problem to use this project through the whole school. It is a language project, but we are using the parts of it again at the moment.

The project was a unique oportunity to show our people the Polish nation in another way that before. The students were very surprised when they had read about all the activities which were organized in the Polish school during the school year. They had to confess that their Polish friends do more for other people that the Czech children. The children realized that the school ICT equipment was similar to the Czech school and that the Polish children were as good as the Czechs. We also tried to understand written and spoken word in both native languages and we were able to show our students the fact that our languages come from the same group of Indoeuropean languages- Slovonic group. The very important is the fact that the relationship between the teacher and the students is based on friendly atmosphere, democratic relationships. The students are grateful that they can use the free software given them in the etwinning project and they felt safe using the internet that way. They tried very hard to created the best contribution. They behaved very well in the computer room and they were proud about the project. They became more confident in public speaking.

The most important income for the students was that they improved their ICT literacy, they learned a lot of new software, they were able to realize their ideas- very often in the better way than we, teachers had expected. They communicated with the teenagers from another country. We, teachers, had to accept the reality, that the students were very often better at using computers than us and we often changed the roles in the classroom. We are not ICT teachers and we had to learn a lot ourselves, very often the method of try and error. We have got the Quality Label in both countries, which means that we have received also the International Quality label. We think that this project with the special name which can be explained in two ways Let´s/b/log in- Let´s blog in or Let´s log in deserves good assessment.

Graduation ceremony Poland

19th June is the end of the school year in 2009. We are happy that our holidays have started but we are also glad that we could do so many interesting things during the past school year. Our eTwinning project was definitely one of the best activities we were involved in.

This year ceremony was a bit different than the previous ones. Our School Drama Club prepared a play by Julisz Słowacki titled 'Balladyna". 2009 was announced the Year of Słowacki - one of the most popular Polish poets.

Let's enjoy our holidays! May it be a great time for everyone:-)))

All of Poland reads to kids

"All of Poland reads to kids" is a national campaign initiated in 2001 whose aim is to promote reading. There are various ways to get involved in it. Students of Gimnazjum nr 14 join this campaign annually. Our tradition is going to a local kindergarten and a primary school. Our students read stories to children, organize quizzes and everyone enjoys this time.

The organizers of the campaign promote it in the following words: ‘We all want our children to grow up to be wise, good and happy people. There is a way to achieve this – let’s read aloud to our children”. The campaign is advertised in the media with the words: “Read to your child for 20 minutes a day, every day”. Thanks to participating in this campaign we can experience the pleasure of reading!

We care- Our Indian girl Mary Prathibha Swamy

Our school takes care of a little girl from India. We have been paying for her education for six years and we will go on till she finishes the basic school. She lives in the south-west of India in the part called Karnataka. The village is Christian and our adoption for a distance/ as it is called/ is organized by The Charity organization in Prague and India. We send letters to Mary twice a year and she sends letters to us.

During the teachers-parents meeting we collected enough money for her new school year. It is 5 thousand Czech crowns per a school year. It is very useful for the children when they can learn about other children who were not so lucky to be born in a comfort and rich society. The parents could buy pieces of art made by their children.

Public learns about the project

Teachers - parents meeting

On 16 th April, there was a meeting with parents at school. We decided to present our project to the parents. They came to our classroom and the students told them about our work with the Polish school in Ruda Slaska. We showed them also our brochures with boardgames and crosswords. They were very surprised. They hope that we will win next school year and we will be able to visit our friends in Poland.

Winning photos-congratulation

The results of the photo competition in graphs

Let´s /b/log in will be in the Gallery of projects

TEMPLATE FOR GALLERY PROJECTS

Project Title: Let´s /b/log in

Details: This is a project in which all the children will practice their English but also ICT skills. They will introduce each other and they will get to know the partner´s environment better

http://twinblog.etwinning.net/4760/http://twinspace.etwinning.net/launcher.cfm?lang=en&cid=32114
www.tercieb-poland.blogspot.com
www.gym-cl.cz

Aims:
To present our work on three public spaces, two blogs and twinspace. To create a collection of board games for conversation lessons, a collection of crosswords in English, photo competition- The most beautiful tree, podcast recordings and videos, to introduce our environment with good and bad points, to learn how to cook traditional dishes

Pedagogical Value:
This project is connected to the curriculum and we transfer topics from English lessons into the project such as the environment, our town, free time activities,

Evaluation:
We think that the project is developing very well, the students have learned a lot about some techniques which they had not known before / for example excel- crosswords, games, changing the size of pictures-photo galleries, using the camera-photo competition, using the microphone- podcast, creating powerpoint presentations, working with information and adjusting it for our purpose,

Use of ICT Tools:
We are using word document, powerpoint, MP3 recordings- dictaphone, a Kodak camera and their personal cameras, all the tools given us by eTwinning.net, blogs, podcasts, slideshares,

Impact:

The students present their project on the school web and on the school corridor notice board, they have presented this project to the parents during the school meeting and we have written into the local newspaper. Other students know about the cooperation with Poland and they want to have a project too. In our school due to various projects, two projects are running at the moment.

Advice:
It is good to think how to make the lessons more interesting and you will see that your students will remember grammar and vocabulary better from the project than from ordinary exercises from the textbook. You will meet new friends and it is also very important.

Photo competition

One of our activities during the project Let´s /b/log in was a photo competition called The Most Beautiful Tree.
13 students took part in this competition and they learned how to take a good picture with a digital camera. They had to resize the photo and place it into photogallery in the twinspace. There were very nice pictures of trees and it was not easy to find the winners.

In the Czech school, we decided to let more people vote. Various students came to the English classroom, observed the exhibition and voted for three pictures.

In total 64 students, two secretaries and five teachers gave their votes to their favourite pictures.

The winners are: 1. Jan Mitáč – The Czech Republic
2. Dominika Kaczmarek – Poland
3. Barbora Kecková – The Czech Republic

The winners got a nice certificate and small presents which will remind them of the project.

Easter survey - Polish group

Thanks to our cooperation we can compare variuos aspect of our lives throughout the year. This time we conducted Easter survey, responding to the questions posted by the Czech teacher on our forum. Reading our friends' posts we can see that some traditions are similar in our countries but it seems that the ways Polish and Czech students celebrate Easter are rather different.

Thanks for "pomlazka' and Easter wishes

A few days ago we received Easter wishes and a nice present from our Czech friends. They sent us a traditional Czech "pomlazka' - a kind of whip used by boys and men on Easter Monday to beat girls in a gentle way. As we learnt "pomlazka" is made from willow rods and its symbolic meaning is that it brings good luck and wealth. In fact this custom used to be popular in Poland in the past but now we celebrate Easter Monday as Śmigus Dyngus which involves a lot of water being poured on girls that day. Thanks to our partners we could learn more about our own customs!
